What are these cannabis ratios?
A large majority of cannabis products will show ratios such as 1:1, 2:1, 20:1, etc on their packaging. These numbers will estimate the amounts of cannabinoids in the product. If a product has more numbers, for example 2:1:1, this means 3 cannabinoids have higher amounts inside the product than any other.
Remember, CBD can naturally block the THC high effect when more CBD than THC is in the product. Our opinion is that when a product gets as much as 3:1 CBD:THC or higher, the THC becomes less effective and noticeable.
The following examples will be between CBD and THC. Many products have more than just those two cannabinoids but THC and CBD are the most used in products. Sometimes written as CBD:THC or THC:CBD. Lots of times the left side is what is most used in the product.
The following are examples and our opinion on how certain ratios will effect the majority of users. There are more ratios but these are just the examples we chose.
1:1
The term “1:1” indicates that the product contains an equal amount of THC and CBD per serving. In other words, if there is 1mg of THC present, there will also be 1mg of CBD. This balanced ratio allows benefits from both cannabinoids. You will still feel the intoxicating effects coming from THC.
2:1
2:1 refers to a specific ratio of CBD to THC, indicating that for every 2 parts of CBD, there is 1 part of THC. It is important to note that despite this ratio, the THC substance still possesses the potential to induce an intoxicating effects.
3:1
The ratio 3:1 signifies that for every 3 parts of CBD, there is 1 part of THC. This specific ratio allows for a gentle presence of THC meaning many start to feel less of a high because of the high CBD content. The term “CBD Rich” or a similar description can represent products with a higher CBD content.
2:1
2:1 refers to a specific ratio of CBD to THC, indicating that for every 2 parts of CBD, there is 1 part of THC. It is important to note that despite this ratio, the THC substance still possesses the potential to induce an intoxicating effects.
3:2
In the ratio of 3:2, it indicates that there will be three parts of CBD for every two parts of THC. In other words, if there is a dosage of 3mg of CBD, it will correspond to 2mg of THC. Such proportions aim to provide a mild yet perceptible presence of THC. At this ratio of CBD and THC, you will still get a high effect in larger amounts.
A higher CBD content in a product as opposed to cannabinoids with psychoactive properties, like THC, THCV, and CBN, reduces the likelihood of experiencing high effects. In our opinion, this tends to start at 3:1 and 4:1 “CBD rich”. For instance, a product with a CBD to THC ratio of 20:1 will result in virtually no sensation of being high.
4:1
The term “4:1” refers to a ratio where there are four parts of CBD to one part THC. This means that for every four milligrams of CBD, there is one milligram of THC. At this ratio, the presence of THC might be felt although at a relatively low intensity.
8:1
The ratio 8:1 indicates that there are eight parts CBD for every one part THC. For instance, if there is 8mg of CBD present, there will be 1mg of THC. This cannabinoid combination should not induce a psychoactive high, although you may experience the uplifting effects.
20:1
A 20:1 CBD to THC ratio implies that for every 20 parts of CBD, there is 1 part THC. At this specific ratio, the psychoactive effects associated with THC will not be experienced. Such a composition proves highly beneficial if one’s primary objective is to obtain CBD’s therapeutic benefits.
8:1
The ratio 8:1 indicates that there are eight parts CBD for every one part THC. For instance, if there is 8mg of CBD present, there will be 1mg of THC. This cannabinoid combination should not induce a psychoactive high, although you may experience the uplifting effects.
40:1
The ratio of 40:1 indicates that for every 40 parts of CBD, there is only 1 part of THC. It is worth noting that such an amount of CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects typically associated with THC consumption.
Some product cannabinoid ratio examples
- Serving size – 10mg THC + 5mg CBD. This is an example of 2:1 THC:CBD
- Serving size – 10mg CBD + 2mg THC. This is an example of 5:1 CBD:THC
- Serving size – 10mg THC + 0.5mg CBN. This is an example of 20:1 THC:CBN
- Serving size – 6mg THC + 2mg CBN + 2mg CBD. This is an example of 3:1:1 THC:CBN:CBD
